Summer Reading with Beanstack

All Together Now. Summer Reading Program June 5 - July 31
Beanstack

This project was brought to you by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services grant LS-00-19-0050-19.

We are bringing our 2023 Summer Reading Program: All Together Now to you virtually with Beanstack! On Beanstack, you can log your reading and activities to earn badges and tickets for prize drawings! Summer Reading runs from June 5 until July 31, with a special Bonus Round in August.

Click here for a printable flyer.

How to get started:

  1. Download the Beanstack app or visit our website at berlinlibrary.beanstack.org/
  2. Register readers. You can create an account for yourself and your child. You do not need to have an account for yourself if you are just signing up a child (but there are great prizes for you too!)

  3. Enroll each reader for the Summer Reading Program that corresponds with their age. There are summer reading challenges for all ages: children, teens, and adults!

  4. Log your reading to earn badges and entries into prize drawings. Some challenges may offer bonus prize entries and other rewards for completing activities and book reviews.

Not interested in using Beanstack? No worries. We will continue to offer paper reading cards. Just visit us at the library to get signed up!

Here's how Summer Reading works:

This year's theme, "All Together Now," is all about kindness, friendship, unity, and community but you can read any book you like! Audiobooks and graphic novels count!

Kids & Teens Challenge (Ages Birth-17) - Log the number of minutes you read! Every 120 minutes of reading earns you a badge and a ticket to enter for a prize drawing.

Adult Challenge (Ages 18+) - Log the number of books you complete! Every book you complete earns you a badge and a ticket to enter for a prize drawing.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Why is Summer Reading important?

A: Reading during the summer helps kids retain and build upon the skills they learned in school, resulting in intellectual progress in vocabulary, spelling, and math skills. Summer reading helps prevent the "summer slide," in which students may lose academic skills and reading achievements during the summer that they had gained during the school year. Furthermore, engaging with stories and the written word fosters social-emotional development and elevates the importance of lifelong learning.

Q: How do I earn prize tickets and where do I enter for a prize?
A: Read! Log your minutes (children and teens) or completed books (adults), and earn badges. Badges will award virtual tickets. Then you choose to enter your tickets into a virtual prize "bucket." Prizes are the same for both virtual and paper programs. The last day to submit your tickets is July 31st.

Q: What if I don’t have access to a smart phone or computer?
A: There are two options: visit the library and use one of our computers to enter your information. Or pick up paper cards to track your reading.

Q: Will there be a prize wheel this year?
A: Yes – the wheel will be out on Wednesdays.

Q: If I have more questions or need help with my Beanstack  account, who do I ask?
A: Send an email to bplstaff@berlinlibrary.org, reach out through our Facebook page, or stop in to ask a staff member for further assistance.
