Silent to the Bone, by E. L. Konigsburg (Young Adult)

Branwell Zamborska was struck dumb at exactly 2:43 p.m. Eastern Time, at exactly the time of the 911 call reporting that his baby sister has slipped into a coma. He cannot explain what has happened but the au pair, Vivian Shawcurt, fills in the blanks to the police. She tells the emergency team and the police that Branwell dropped his sister and shook her. Branwell is put into a Juvenile behavioral center and his sister is taken to the hospital. Through the efforts of his best friend, Connor, Bran is able to communicate enough to set Connor off on a detective trip to clear Bran, and find out what actually happened.
