Joey Pigza Loses Control, by Jack Gantos (Junior/Young Adult)
Joey Pigza is a hyperactive kid who tries very hard to keep himself in control. With the help of medication he has made great strides and has improved a great deal in school.
After many years of absence, his father wants to be a part of his life. When Joey meets him he sees a grown-up version of himself without the medication. On a long summer visit, Joey’s Dad decides that Joey should take control of his life and that he doesn’t need his meds. Joey is willing to do whatever his dad says, even though he fears it will do him more harm than good.
