Brooklyn,
Bugsy and Me, by Lynea Bowdish (Junior)
Sam’s
father has been killed in World War II. His mother can no longer support
them on her own so they pack up their belongings and the urn with his
father’s ashes and head off from West Virginia to live with his
grandfather in Brooklyn. Sam misses his room, his forest and his fishing
hole. He feels even worse when his grandfather doesn’t even talk
to him. His father’s urn finds a place on top of the china cabinet
but Sam has a harder time finding his place.
Into his
life cones Tony who introduces him to egg creams, stickball and to “Bugsy”,
his grandfather, the toast of the neighborhood. This is a warm and funny
story about the importance of family and friends.
