At the Sign of the Star, by Katherine Sturtevant (Young Adult)

Meg Moore has grown up motherless, the only child of a prosperous bookseller in Restoration London. This makes her the mistress of her father’s house and the heir to her father’s estate. As such she will have a freedom of choice in marriage not given to all girls who do not have a dowry. However, her perfect life is disrupted one day when her father decides to remarry. Meg is no longer in charge in the home or in the bookstore. In fact her stepmother insists that Meg learn to do the household chores she had been delegating, much to Meg’s displeasure. When her stepmother becomes pregnant, Meg despairs of her life ever being normal again.
