A Time Apart, by Diane Stanley (Young Adult)

Ginny Dorris’s life is turned upside down when her mother is diagnosed with cancer. She is unable to understand her mother’s reasoning when she decides to send Ginny to live in England with her father, an archeologist. To make matters worse he is not even living in the city. Instead he and a group of volunteers are attempting to live on a historic site just as the people of the Iron Age would have centuries before. This means no running water, no electricity, and no toilets. More importantly, there is no shampoo or deodorant. Ginny resents her exile to this dig and is extremely worried about her mother. The saving grace at the site is Daisy, a lonely five year old, who latches on to Ginny, and a mysterious, handsome young man, Corey. Ginny insists on returning in time for school but no-one is making any promises.
