Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman (Young Adult)

The Golden Compass is a fantasy adventure that begins when Lyra goes in search of a microscopic magical dust found only in the vast Arctic expanse of the North. It is rumored to possess the power to unite whole universes. Some are searching for it to destroy it. Lyra is catapulted into the middle of this epic struggle.

Student Rating: A great book for those interested in the supernatural. Not to be read by those easily frustrated as it can be hard to follow if not read carefully. The story flows well but there are a few sudden plot turns that will ruin the book if not read correctly. I had to go back to a previous page once or twice and fix my mindset.

Other books in the series are Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass.
